Maisie Stewart-Cook is currently a cook at Serious Pie Virginia. They started cooking at the very beginning of the pandemic when we needed cooks the most. When they aren’t on the line, they run the food blog Phattbaq. What started as small dinners for friends and family quickly turned into a kitchen alter-ego where they put on pop-ups and write about kitchen culture. They grew up in a multicultural household with their Filipino grandmother who taught them how to cook but more importantly how to eat. Growing up, Maisie didn’t have any interest in a career that didn’t directly improve the lives of others. The idea was to go into conservation or environmental science but through time they discovered that cooking couldn’t be inhibited by socioeconomic status much like academic environments. It was seen as a win-win situation to be a student of the earth and serve others at the same time.
The idea of food being a love language and a conduit for community care is what inspired their first pop-up with us coming up on January 20. It’s a celebration of community and connection, highlighting the importance of taking care of those who take care of you.
You’ll be enjoying their childhood favorites and some great company. Proceeds are going to International Community Health Services (ICHS) and Asian Counseling and Referral Services (ACRS) which operates a food bank, and senior and community meal programs, as well as health and social services.
Bring your people and an appetite, it’ll be a party
About International Community Health Services:
